Micron pens

I have never used the Micron Pigma Pens on cloth before, unfortunately for me, the one time I've done so, when I tried to wash it out, it's run and also run into some white applique next to it. A quilt friend suggested pouring boiling water from a distance and letting it run through. This has worked somewhat. I've also used Oxyclean spray on it and the red remains on the white cloth (applique) next to the marking with a soft pink blush. I've never used them before and I will not use them again on cloth. Any suggestions in removing it entirely. It says it's water and fade proof and they aren't kidding.

Red and White Quilt

Thanks Laura! First, the red fabric is JoAnn's Country Classic solid. Before I cut it, I soaked it in vinegar and cold water for an hour and then washed it in cold water with regular laundry detergent. Once the quilt was done, I used 2 teaspoons of Synthrapol and hot water in my washing machine (per the instructions on the bottle) and let it soak for about an hour. The soaking part isn't on the bottle, but I wanted to be extra cautious.) I then just ran it through the gentle wash cycle and then I washed it again in cold water with quilt soap. I dried it in the dryer on high heat. I like to use cotton batting that isn't pre-shrunk and then dry the finished quilt after the first wash to get the puckered, old fashioned look. Just personal preference. I usually hang the quilts to dry after the first time to save on wear and tear. I was so happy the red didn't run!

Red and White

What a spectacular quilt! I love it. I am curious. What water temperature did you use? Any color catchers in the load? The method you chose for drying. Also, I am not remembering if you prewashed the reds. Do you mind being more specific? I always fret about these things myself and like to hear success stories.

Red and White Quilt

I posted a question about Retayne or Synthrapol a few days ago. I took your advice and used the Synthrapol on my red and white quilt when I finished it and it worked perfectly, no bleeding at all. Thanks so much for your help!
