Jewelry and Wall Hangings/ I need help!

While cleaning my dresser yesterday I had an idea and wonder if anyone has ever done a wall hanging of this type. In my career days long ago, I was required to wear a suit to work. I usually dressed it up with a pin - costume jewelry mostly, but pieces that had meaning to me. A number of them had been collected on my travels and I still remember where each one was purchased. My idea was to make a wall hanging featuring all these special pins attractively displayed so that I could still enjoy them. Temporarily, I have pinned them around the edges of a pieced wreath done in muted floral prints. Pretty but not quite the look I want. Anyone have an idea for a better display? All suggestions welcome!!! TIA

Several years ago, padded/quilted items were made for hanging necklaces etc. I intended to make one for a sil, but found one instead. It was a padded heart w/little cup hooks at regular intervals and was nice looking. You might be able to do something like that. Or you could use the same idea and criss cross ribbons, like the photo hangers that have been popular more recently. Maybe you could pin your pins thru the ribbons.

Good luck in finding a solution. I love ideas where pretty things can be displayed rather than stuck on boxes or drawers!

You could do a square in a square motif, with fabrics relating to your pin in the outer square (setting triangles). It sounds like an interesting project. Be sure to take a picture when you finish!

A lot of quilt pin collectors make small quilts to display their pins. The prettiest one I ever saw was an attic window with the pins in the 'windows.'

Well, I came here to suggest an attic window but I see that someone already did that! And here I thought I was being so original! I like the idea you're using now - pinning them on a wreath-type design. NancyH

A former owner of a quilt shop in WI made a shirt & tie block pattern for her dad. She used actual scraps from some of his shirts and ties to display all the tie tacks that represented his service to Wisconsin by being a delegate to one of our political parties (I don't remember which party). Maybe you could do something similar using some of your work blouses with pieces from your favorite scarves? Just a thought...

Sandi Irish has a pattern that is for a wall hanging to put your quilt show pins. Would that be helpful?

I have several pieces of costume jewelry that were my grandmothers and I made a wallhanging to display them near the vanity that was my husband's grandmothers. I used black velvet squares for the pins and other satinie looking fabrics in mini-four-patches to alternate. It's almost crazy quilt looking as I embelished with some embroidery. It turned out very nicely and I get a lot of compliments on it. Just a thought - JHY

I tried to post a thank you for all the great suggestions but it got lost in cyberspace somewhere. Haven't decided what to do yet but meanwhile have been wearing some of the unearthed pins and just enjoying seeing the others on the wreath.
