handquilting

is alive and well at the Sr Center in Tualatin, Or. We quilted in the ditch around each of the squares and then I whipstitched around all the little blue devil border squares. It would have been better to blind stitch, but the squares were poly cotton. It took forever, but sometimes beauty is its own reward and it did relieve some of the stress of sorting, giving away fabric and moving for me. I'll be living with my two daughters and two grandchildren. This move is in honor of the saying that we should be nice to our children because they will choose our nursing homes.

Finding homes for my collection of Singer 301s is a challenge. They are a wonderful machine but not as popular as the Featherweight, so I have to talk people into loving them and since my DD has two of her own, I don't feel we several more. Thank goodness I resisted the treadle urge.

Summer in western Oregon is getting ready to make the first day of school miserable for those kids who need to wear their new sweaters and shoes on the first day of school.

Oh, my word! Doing that edge must have really been a challenge. It looks teriffic, though. Where will this wonderful quilt go?
Moving is quite difficult and I wish you well in your new place. Keep on sewing; a hobby like this is good for the soul.

Beautiful shading! The Trips that are "on point" just seem to have a whole different look than the ones that are straight & can be strip pieced. Anyone else think so?

That is the loveliest traditional quilt I have seen in a long, long time. What a gorgeous piece of work and the owner has a treasure!

You will have new experiences ahead Betty but as long as you can "talk fabric" with your family all should be well. If your DD has two sewing machines I think you'll be OK. :-)

    Lovely quilt Betty!
Bless your heart for doing the
    edge!
    Still moving?
Are you still going to quilt in Tualatin?
I know the quilters at the Gresham
    Sr.Cnt are pretty active.
Stopped at Pioneer Quilts the other day, reminded what a nice shop that is.
Have you seen Helene Knotts new cat pattern, very cute! (had to have it of course!)
Someone had mentioned to me that they thought it would be about time or Gresham & east co. to have a guild?????
Don't forget Craft Warehouse has Quilt Party, 3rd thurs of the month AM & PM. Let me know if you want to meet there sometime, course I'd have to go to eve. Jill

Betty, the quilt is gorgeous. What a quilting job -- to quilt in the ditch around each square -- this quilt is a treasure for certain. As for the 301s, I don't imagine you will have toooo much trouble giving them away. The 301 is a wonderful vintage Singer that should be in every sewing room. It's a perfect weight to haul to classes and it's handle makes it very easy to carry. I have two .. a mocha and a two-tone tan. I once had a black but preferred the lighter color machines for vision purposes. Too bad they didn't include a ZigZag stitch on this machine or it would be the only one I would ever need. LOL. Thanks for showing us this lovely Trip Around the World.

WOW. The mind boggles, it really does. Wow. That's all I can say. As a handquilter myself, I love this pattern but could never envision doing it, since I'm the only quilter I know and it would take me the rest of my life (I also have to hand piece.) Not that I have the range of shadings I would need to do this.
    WOW.
You've left me speechless, which for a Brit Lit teacher who loves to talk, is quite an achievement.
