Receiving blankets for babies
Wondering if anyone can give me a square dimension for a receiving blanket. My neighbour is expecting her 12th child and apparently now the hospitals require you to bring in all your own things...she's short on receiving blankets and likes the ones that are square for wrapping the baby in...
Thanks,
Rosey

Hi Rosey:
I just measured the receiving blankets I have and they measure 33x22 but I would rather have a more square blanket and think I would decrease the 33 and add on to the 22. After 30 plus years of doing day care I got kind of fussy on the size I like the best.
Wow 12 kids equals a lot of hard work but many blessings also. Difficult to believe the hospital doesn't furnish receiving blankets, but with all the cut backs in medical care I can appreciate the lack of receiving blankets vs. telling moms to go home the day after delivery.
Enjoy life and take care, Phyllis

Usually receiving blankets are 36" x 36" so the baby can be wrapped and swaddled comfortably. My favorite ones were actually 38" X 38".

I just take the width of the fabric (usually 42") and use that measurement for the length as well.
