Eyelash Yarn?

With 1,000 apologies for my last posting being on the wrong board, I'm wondering if anyone has used eyelash yarn to couch down on a jacket. My jacket pattern calls for it, but for the life of me I can't get a sample to look decent. I've tried the walking foot, the couching foot, the reg. foot, don't know what else to do. Any suggestions? It looks flat, not "eyelashy".
Maybe brush it with an old toothbrush?
Suggestions welcomed. Hopefully going to see "The King's Speech" in an hour, but will be back at it on Monday.
