Gummy removal

I've bought some small plastic containers and can't get the gum off from the labels attached to the plastic. I don't have nail polish remover and I'm chemically sensitive so won't use that sort of thing. Does anyone have any other suggestions on how to remove the gummy residue left on plastic containers?
Thanks

Perhaps you could give those containers to a friend to take to his or her home. That person could use Goo-gone, De-Solv-It or another product like that to remove the labels for you and then return them once they are label free. Otherwise you are "stuck" (pun intended).

You could give your friend a plate of home-made cookies as a reward. :-)

Rosey, I wouldn't hurt to try some cooking oil or mineral oil. Those items would be food-safe and more friendly for your personal environment and the environment at large. You might have to let it sit for a little while. Bunny

finger nail polish remover is the harshest of any chemical for this use. There are many good product that are non toxic you can buy for this. The one product used by photo restorers is called UNDO. It is gentle and has no fumes. I find it at WalMart and caft stores. Usually in the scrapbooking dept. Carol from AR

Try a a hair drier on high for a few seconds. It should soften the gum enough to rub it off without damaging the container. I use this trick on collectible toys. If the tag sticks and tears the package, it ruins the value of the item.
I'm also not sure if fingernail polish would be safe to use on plastic, even if you can tolerate the chemicals. It disolves some plastics.

    That De-Solv-it works great,
someone told me WD40 works on gummy stuff.
There is a fairly new Dawn product
called Dawn Direct. It a pump.
I tell you this stuff is amazing.
I use it on almost all clothing stains with success.
I know they use the regular Dawn soap to get grease off wild birds so I'm assuming it's really safe.

I just hate those D*** stickers.

Eucalyptus oil will remove this without any problems. It is a strong smell so use it in an airy room. It is great for getting off any sticky stuff.

Eucalyptus oil will get this off with not problem. It is a great cleaning agent for those stickers you can't ever get off. Look it up on the WEB for other uses.

I loved Judy's answer! I had a huge label I wanted to take off a jar for a school project, so I tried peanut butter on one side and vegetable oil on the other. Both worked great! I had scrubbed and scraped on it for a long time before I checked your site. Thanks!
