Judy Pete, your half square triangle shirt quilt was beautiful. You are inspiring me.
I am going to have my granddaughters (10 & 12 years) stay with me for 3 weeks this summer and I want to teach them to sew. I was looking for a quilt pattern and I thought I might copy your half square triangle quilt. Would you mind sharing the size of the small and large half square triangles you cut for your quilt?
Thanks a bunch,
Linda in beautiful AZ

Linda, the smaller ones are three inches finished size. The larger are six. When I make HSTs, I generally cut the fabrics a full inch larger than the finished size, rather than the usual 7/8 inch. That means for the smaller HSTs, I cut the squares 4 inches. Put two squares right sides together. Then draw a line diagonally and sew 1/4 inch either side of the line. Cut on the line. Press the two HSTs open. Then measure accurately and trim to a perfect 3-1/2 inches (size before sewing to other blocks).
I never could get them as accurate as I wanted when I did the 7/8 inch size. Hence, the 1 inch.
Hope all this makes sense. LOL
