Available Fabric

The only fabric I have to choose from is 25 miles away at Hancock's,Wal-mart, or Hobby Lobby. Last Friday I popped into Hobby Lobby to check their fabric and yarn departments. I hadn't been in some time. It appeared that they had greatly scaled back their entire area that has anything to do with fabric or handwork of any kind. Is this happening in your area too?

Yep, Sandra, same thing here at the Tennessee Hobby Lobbys. And the clerks have been really close-mouthed about it too. When I asked if they were scaling back, one acted vague and said it was hard to tell, maybe they were expanding??? I did notice that they have all their McCalls and Simplicity patterns at a percent reduction (40%?) all the time now.

Yes, ours, too. I had heard they were eliminating all fabric except for quilting fabrics. But the calicos have been on sale continuously for several months now. When I asked one clerk about it, she was very RUDE. All she would say is, "I only work here. I only work here." No response at all to my curiosity. After a few minutes of that, I wanted to reply, "Maybe you shouldn't be." But our Hobby Lobby fabric (only fabric) clerks are not a friendly bunch. And the quilt books have not gone on sale at all in many months!

I remember a few years ago, they cleared out ALL the quilt books. After a few months, they started bringing them back and have about the best selection in town, which is to say a couple dozen different books (which also hasn't changed in forever). I now buy most of my quilt books for half price or less on ebay. But I like to see them first to know if I even want them. And I know you can go to Amazon, but they show the insides of very few quilt books and Connecting Threads doesn't carry a lot either. I sure do miss our Joanns!!!

I buy a lot of quilting fabrics online. I have not been disappointed yet. There are several great places to shop in our 'jammies.'
