Rotary Cutter slicing

Posted for: Jeanne

How many of you have sliced a finger with a rotary cutter? From what I hear, almost everyone has had some sort of accident with those sharp blades.

I did not slice one finger, but 2. The blade was stuck on the post and even a plier to hold the blade and a screwdriver to try to unwedge it off the post, did not work. My natural response to losing control was to "grab" and in the process I sliced the right thumb and left index finger. Fortunately hubby was around and came to my aid when I admitted I had a problem and could not get the bleeding to stop. I kept my fingers bandaged for nearly a week. It was a painful reminder that WD-40 should have been my first option. When I did finally use it, the blade came right off. A painful lesson.
Those are dangerous blades and can inflict deep wounds.

I cut the top of my foot bad when I dropped one with the blade opened. I like the Olfa rotary cutters that retract when you aren't using them. As for cutting my fingers, I bought the cutting glove from Fons&Porter and I feel very safe using it. I won't cut without it. It's cheaper than a ER visit!
