Fabreeze

My son has been using this product for several months and has developed a sinus infection. This product has been discussed here before but I'm wondering if you might have some input into Fabreeze. I've suggested that he not use it any more.
Thanks,
RoseyP

My goodness, Rosey, what does he have that smells bad enough to use Febreze which smells so awful itself. If he uses it in the laundry he should use good old borax powder. It completely removed any scent from poopy diapers and I use it now on dog bedding. It is unscented. If the SUV gets stinky from my having transported garbage (we have no pick up here) I use the least offensive Oust air freshener I can find. I do have one of those stationary things (can't remember the brand) that just sits there and the substance in the opened gizmo, cone inside) gradually evaporates. It sits on top of Shadow's crate where she sleeps most of the night and hangs out if nothing much is going on. I don't smell the thing and I don't smell dog either.

I rather like the smell of Fabreeze. Don't use it very often, on a blouse or two and hang in another room until it dries. Maybe son is using it too often, or not in an area that is venelated?
The user is supposed to wait until the product is dry before wearig, or being in close contact with it.

Febreeze should be a once-in-a-while thing, not an every day thing. Anyone can become sensitized to heavy fragrances if they are used daily in close quarters for a long period of time.

Besides, an infection is an infection, a bacterial or a viral process. Fever, pain and "green snot" (pardon my language) do not come from allergies or sensitivies but from infection caused by bacteria or viruses. I happen to have a DH living with such an infection right now which is being treated with azithromax and which is improving, thank goodness. Grumpy old bear might be allowed out of his cave pretty soon. :-)

All three comments so far have valid points, but I'd like to add that I get a sinus infection every time I have a major cold or allergy attack. It seems that any irritation invites the viruses and bacteria to take up residence in my sinuses.
I avoid all chemicals that I can.
Oust makes an unscented spray that works just fine, but I don't use it often. I can't imagine needing to use Febreeze that often.

Rosey - Fabreze is simply a cover-up perfume and for that reason I will not purchase it. Your son is probably having an allergic reaction to the perfume. Almost 20 years ago I was having bad chronic sinus infections and tracked it down to a hairspray. I told a friend who was also having same chronic sinus troubles, and she was using same hairspray. It's all chemical & perfume sensitivities .....

Whenever I hear of someone with a complaint about a commercially available product that is causing adverse reactions, I contact www.Snopes.com to get their findings. They might not have it but I have found much valuable information on that site.
