Pictures from Houston Show

Here's a link to some pictures I took at Houston last week. There were some amazing quilts this year. I did notice that there were a lot of "art" quilts. Marty Michell sponsored an exhibit of traditional patchwork which was very nice. The Japanese quilts are so intricate and so beautiful - I took a few pictures of them including some close-ups so you could see the tiny handpieced work. And the Canadian Quilt of Remembrance was spectacular - very nicely displayed. I did not take a picture because it was impossible to get the full effect. http://community.webshots.com/user/mnglynn NancyH

Thank you for posting your pictures. I actually remember seeing some of these. VBG I thought the Japanese quilts were so finely done. I don't have the patience to do that kind of work.

Does anybody know if the leafy quilt in picture 17 of Nancy's webshots album is a commercial pattern? I absolutely love those leaves!!!

I've seen pictures of this leaf pattern, but not necessarily the setting. I can't remember which magazine it was in and I don't think I have it, but the pattern for the leaves is available.

I found this pattern for the leaves. The quilt name is "Autumn Leaves" if the whole URL does not work. Marge

While I am thinking about it Beth, the instructions for setting the blocks with the "wonky" sashing can be found on the About.com site under quilts as she just had a lesson on them.

    Just beautiful!
Just a note about saving pictures from webshots.
the picture needs to be in "Full Size", there's little tags down below the picture. Then you can right click & save in the usual way.
I'm so glad we can view pictures like these & not just the winners.

Regarding Jill's comment, oddly enough I did not photograph any of the winners. They were beautiful, but I just like the traditional quilts better. Usually I try to get pictures of interesting color combinations that I might not have tried on my own, or an interesting way to use a traditional block. I pull these out when I'm having a brain block and they help to get the juices flowing again! NancyH
