Tie Quilt Prep

I am going to make my first tie quilt and I have them all cut apart and pressed and spray starched. Must I use a light interfacing in them or will the starch be enough? I am thinking of making a jewel box quilt with them.
TIA,
Linda

  1. Whenever I read about tie quilts in magazines they always seem to be backed with light weight interfacing. I am guessing it helps with fraying as well as offering stability.

  2. I'm thinking you mean quilts from ties, as in men's neckties? Or do you mean a quilt that you tie, instead of holding together with quilting?
Is the fabric silk? If so the light weight interfacing would give some stability. Same thing Laura said, only more words. LOL!

  3. Have you seen the quilt book called Daddy's Ties? that one might have some suggestions.

I'll be looking forward to hearing how your quilt goes, as I have over 75 ties stacked in a drawer (DH retired in June and no longer wears them).
