Question

I have made my first t-shirt quilt for DD. My question is: Did I see somewhere that people have used fleece or something similar to back these quilts so that batting is not needed? It just seems that with t-shirt material for the quilt top I need something other than a cotton for the backing. Thoughts, please.

  1. I used a heavy chamois-type of flannel for the back of DH's t-shirt quilt. No need for batting in this one. I liked it because it was cotton rather than using an acrylic fleece.

  2. Ooo, I wish I had seen your post before I bought the fleece. I didn't even think about mixing acrylic with the t-shirt cotton. I hope it doesn't make a mess!

  3. Probably won't make that much difference. Those old t-shirts have probably done all the shrinking they are going to do. Mine was just personal preference.

  4. That's very true. These have shrunk all they're going to shrink, for sure. The top and back are now together; now I have to tie it!

  5. I did use a batting - "Request" Dream Cotton, with a cotton back. It turned out perfect.
