"Fireworks!" Wallhanging Finished After Seven Months of Steady Work
This wallhanging is made from a foundation-pieced pattern called "Fireworks!" (published by Possibilities) that I started working on in February, 2012. It is officially a scrap quilt because it has more than 100 fabrics in it, mostly batiks. I will be entering it in the scrap quilt category in the National Quilting Association show next June in Columbus, Ohio. It measures 45" x 45" and I have "quilted it to death" which seems to be the popular thing to do these days. That is not a technique I enjoyed doing and it is not a method I will repeat as I did the work on my vintage 201-2 Singer and it wore me out. But this thing is done now and all it needs is a label. I draped it over this bench on our patio so you could get an idea of its size. (Sometimes I wish quilt photos had a human in them or a piece of furniture to help establish scale.)
Beautiful! You do such amazing work.

Thank you, Mary, for your kind words. This quilt made me realize that my days of doing complicated things like this are drawing to a close ... "tain't fun" to work on the hard stuff any more. I think I want to focus on doing easier things in the future. :-)
ReplyDeleteOMG Judy, it's extraordinary!
ReplyDeleteI love it.
Fantastic! Not enough words for it! Agree on the hard stuff, LOL.
ReplyDeleteKnowing that you quilted this on your 201-2 impresses me even more! Makes sense...the size would fit nicely under the vintage Singer. I am in awe!
ReplyDeleteJudy, it's gorgeous and I agree, too many quilts these days are overdone with the quilting stitch but that's because they are machine quilted. Quilters need to consider that the design or pattern of the quilt is the prime focus, the quilting, secondary. I'm not criticizing machine quilting, I'm just saying that you need to ask yourself, what is the main feature here...the design or the quilting? The quilting can overtake the pattern design.

I love that quilt. Since you have stated that you won't do it again, would you be interested in selling the pattern. I can be reached at bhdquilts @ gmail. com
