Latest Project

I still need a border (it will be the darker blue metallic finger paint), but am so excited by my results that I had to share. I adapted a newer Atkinson's Design pattern called Urban Squares. http://www.atkinsondesigns.com/

The prints are a metallic finger paint line from Stephanie Brandenburg of Fern Hill in South Amana, Iowa. http://fernhill.net/shop/

This is my attempt at "modern quilting". How did I do? Gentle critiques are desired.

  1. oh, very nice!! That's a wonderful pattern for using focus fabric or even an I-Spy!

I like the way the 2-sided borders alternate in direction ... if you had put them all going the same way, it would have been a very 'average' layout. This way brings life and movement to the quilt.

Your wide sashings in a solid fabric give you a GREAT opportunity for some showcase quilting! The solid fabric will allow the quilting to be readily seen.

You mentioned that you're going to use the darker blue metallic print for the outer border ... excellent choice. Of course, I am partial to blue myself, so I don't think you could have made a better choice. :-) From the picture, it looks like the metallic print might obscure the quilting. If that is so, don't waste your time nor money on fancy quilting (unless you just want to practice something!) .. a simple design might be more suited for that fabric.

All in all, an excellent top! If you end up not liking it, you may certainly send it my way. :-)

  5. As always Laura your quilt is gorgeous. You have such a talant for picking the 'right' fabrics for projects! Thanks for sharing.

Re quilting - don't have a clue but I know you'll soon 'see' what would look perfect.

    Hugz to you!
