Wow, Milli - It's really coming along beautifully. It looks like there's a light on behind the blocks. When I saw your stacks of fabric I thought you raided my sewing room! I have a lot of the same ones. Keep us posted as you go. NancyH
I really like the quilt so far. I ordered the pattern after you posted the first pictures and after seeing more blocks, I'm glad I did. I think I'm going to go study it a bit. Keep sharing your progress. Joleen
JILL The reason the edges are jagged is that they are 2 inch blocks set on point and sewn on the diagonal. That gives you the points - they dissappear when you sew the squares together.
Jill - I was thinking - I don't think I got the explaination right.
After the colors are arranged from dark to light and the strips are cut into squares you have strips of color that are alike. You sew one strip to another lowering one square down at a time. That's why the edges aren't even. Doesn't matter if you then sew the finished squares on point or even.
hum, darn, I still don't understand. I have one of Blanche Youngs books, maybe I can see a visual in it. Or I may just get the pattern when I finish a project or two here. Thanks Milli, I'm just a little slow :)
JIll I misunderstood your original question. To sew the blocks together - How to tell? Well, if you were going to sew the blocks together you'd have to even them off by trimming them. No, you leave the points on but sew a straight seam right through the edge block. I haven't got to that point yet and one I saw she didn't even trim the seam after sewing. I think I would be inclided to but will keep you posted. Milli

ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYour colors are so deep & rich.
So how do those blocks go together
with that jagged edge? Jill
Same thing I was wondering, Jill. I love the color choices.
