I need help deciding on what to do with my subscriptions to 2 quilt magazines. I have Fonz & Porter , and Quilting Arts. Both are about to run out. I love getting the Quilting Arts and looking at the pages, but find I never do anything in the mag. Most of it seems to be directed at the professional quilter.
Fonz & Porter is interesting, but very traditional. I've done one or two of their quilts over the years, mainly for the grand-boys.
Is there a magazine out there that is halfway between the two? If so what is it?
I'd love to have your imput.
Thanks,
Sara in Fla.
I have found the quilt magazines not for the "long" time quilters but I do have to look in them at the stores to see if there is anything that interests me. There has to be at least three things before I purchase them. I also have given up my subscriptions of the three magazines I was getting. I found a fun magazine of quilting to read, Mark Lipinski's "Quilter's Home". Mostly reading but he adds at least three quilts. Sometimes they are interesting. LONNA
ReplyDeleteI subscribed to Lapinski's mag and am very disappointed. It's too cute for words. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
ReplyDeleteI've let most of my mag subscription lapse. I find that good old Quiltmaker is the only one I put post its in to take me back to specific patterns so I'm sticking with that one.

The quilt magazine I find myself buying over and over is The Quilter (not to be confused with American Quilter, the $100,000 one). I love to look at their quilts and have found several I want to make. I let my BH&G American patchwork lapse because most were just too country for me, but I love The Quilter. If I decide to subscribe to something, it will be that one.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Lonna in that magazines aren't for the "long time quilter" and have stopped all subscriptions. I now quickly page through them at the book store and if at least 2 patterns jump up and bite me, I buy it. I am a saver and if I have a subscription I save all magazines "in case" I want to make it one day -- as result I have dozens of magazines I know I'll never use. Save your subscription $$ and add to your fabric stash! LOL

I agree with Jane, Quiltmaker Magazine is great. I like the format, instructions as well as pictures and quilting tips and patterns. That being said, the magazines are sitting on my shelf and I've only done 3 things out of what must be 50 issues....sigh...

I still continue to get Quilter's newsletter. Often I buy Fons & Porter with my 40% off coupon at JoAnns.
ReplyDeleteOverall, I'm disappointed with most of them. Quilting too long, maybe?
So tell me why I have trouble getting rid of them!!!! Jill
Jill I don't believe it is possible to be quilting too long...
ReplyDeletethere are so many quilts i want to make I will never get them all done. Magazines....I subscribe to 3 right now. As the subscriptions expire I do not plan to renew. I save magazines and have quilt mags from the early 80's. I really enjoy looking at the older issues more so than I do the newer ones. I have purchased "Quilters Home" once or twice but not interested enough to subscribe to it. Pat in Flint
